For the treatment of E. coli infections in adults and children, Bactrim has been studied in clinical trials, as well as in studies in children, to date. The drug was originally developed to treat severe infections in children, but its use was restricted to infections that were thought to be more severe. Over the last five years, there have been three different studies involving Bactrim-containing products (tablets, solutions, suspensions, and capsules). The most well-known Bactrim products were:Bactrim-Bactrim,Bactrim-Sulfamethoxazole, andBactrim-Trimethoprim.

The drugs are available in both immediate and extended-release forms, usually taken in doses of 2 to 4 milligrams and usually with other active ingredients.
